We offer a crèche, afterschool and youth programs to underprivileged children in Hout Bay, Cape Town. Having grown from three sheds into three proper classrooms, kitchen and toilets we’re firm believers that passion can get you far! As many of the children we work from come from difficult backgrounds we try to offer both education and the emotional support they need to grow and flourish.
Our mission is creating a future for generations to come. By helping to educate and support children we believe we’re positively impacting the present and the future.
What we look for in volunteers:
Knowledge of working with children, or teaching any kind of subject (arts, dance, sports, English, etc.) is beneficial, but not necessary. Most often volunteers act as the extra arms of the teachers in charge; working as teaching assistants, but also welcome to teach their own (supervised) classes. We also need help with social media, marketing and fundraising as there aren’t enough of us to do everything!
You will need a police clearance from your country of residence and you will need to sign a volunteer agreement with us. Should you need proof you will volunteer with us we can arrange that – a small admin fee will be applicable.
The preferable volunteering time is at least a month, but we’ve accepted volunteers for as short a period as one week.
We are very happy to receive donations, or have the volunteer set up an Indiegogo page to raise funds for us. We’re looking to raise funds for the teacher salaries, necessities at the center and to further expand the center as we are short of space and have architects willing to work with us.
